Malta - Emerging from a lockdown

Malta's Reopening Timeline
Looking forward to Summer
Malta has dealt with the COVID virus remarkably well over the last year with numbers of cases and fatalities staying fairly low thankfully however after a peak in February and March the country decided to return to a lockdown situation with almost everything except essential shops closed. However with cases now returning to only a few each day and with only 9 new cases today on the 6th May the country has announced its planned return to normality in preparation for summer and a busy tourist season.
With Malta standing as one of the leading countries worldwide in terms of vaccines administered and now well over 50% of the adult population vaccinated there is hope that Malta will be one of the preferred destinations of travel for your summer holidays in 2021. Below we look at the planned timeline for returning to normality in time for your summer holidays.
Malta has long suggested that June 1st 2021 will be the date that the island will be ready to reopen for tourists with Bars, Restaurants, Summer Schools, Language Schools and most importantly Dive Centres allowed to operate as normal.
Restaurants will be allowed to open again on May 10th but only until 5pm so no dinner service, this will though change on May 24th when their opening hours will be extended to allow patrons to enjoy dinner also which means during your summer holidays can still enjoy some of the fine cuisine that Malta has to offer. We highly recommend trying some of the local seafood and even some of the famous Fenkata (Rabbit).
Finally the most important news is that Dive Centres will be allowed to operate and organise your diving activities from the 10th May with small groups (currently max 4 people unless part of the same household). So now is the perfect time to take advantage of some of our special offers and get back in the water ready for summer 2021.
